DAY 2: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO
After early breakfast at hotel you will take a bus to the ruins which only takes 30 minutes and departs every 10 minutes. In Machupicchu you will meet you group where you will have 2 hours guided tour then will have extra time to explore the ruins by yourself. If on the other hand you want to see Huaynapicchu you can climb or you can go to the most famous spot of Machupicchu. The Sun Gate is a one hour climb or if you simply want to get postcard pictures of the ruins, by all means do so. We encourage all the travelers to make the most of their time in this place. There are options that you can take to Aguas Calientes either by bus or carry on with your walking through those famous Inca steps. The usual departure time is in the afternoon via train to Ollantaytambo then by bus to your hotel in Cusco.
NOTE: Climbing to the Sun Gate is always available and free to do. This is also a easy way to walk to a lovely spot with views of Machu Picchu below. If you prefer Huaynapicchu with more dramatic views, this needs to be planned in advance and is $25 per person. It takes one hour to the top and is a bit challenging. The other option is Machu Picchu Mountain which is 1.5 hours straight up, very challenging and $15 per person. This is probably the most beautiful and dramatic of all views, but all three options are lovely and will result in amazing photos.
